Two Questions: FR8 & .357 mag Carbines/Rifles
Guess I'll throw this all out at once. I want to hear what others have to say about the Spanish FR8, and about the options for long guns in 357 mag. I'd like to shoot the Win model 94 in .357 but I guess Rossi's also got a lever action in .357 too. I know there a some others. Never tried any of these and I'm really wanting to know more.

I have a Winchester Trapper in .357 Magnum. It is a great, fun gun and the kids can shoot 38 specials through it all day long with little wear and tear...

Re: Two Questions: FR8 & .357 mag Carbines/Rifles
I have had both an FR8 and a 1916 carbine that both had started life as mausers chambered in 7mm and had been converted to .308 by Spanish arsenals. I did not like either rifle chambered in that round. I have a 1916 in the original 7mm and it is very accurate and pleasant to shoot. The conversion of it to .308 ruined a perfectly good rifle in my opinion. The Spanish also had what is known as the cetme round, which is a .308 Nato round powered down to approximately 30-30 levels and this is the round that is safe to shoot in these rifles. Shooting normal .308 in these rifles will eventually ruin the head spacing.
On a much more positive note .357 lever guns are great. haven't met one I don't like yet. I have an older Marlin with 16 1/2 barrel that I love. It gives .357 a bunch of extra juice. And they are QUICK and handy. I hope this is helpful. |

Shot a FR8[with full bore 308 rounds,we didn't know anybetter]and it kicked like hell. Wondered later if the Spanish had bored that barrel all the way out to .308.
Would really like a quality 357 pump rifle. |

I have a couple of the Rossi/Legacy Sports Puma 1892 lever actions in 44 magnum. Both are 24" with octagon barrels. They are great shooting rifles that are tough, reliable and nice looking to boot!
